A ColumBUS transit driver placed 12th in last weekend’s National Community Transit Roadeo in Tampa, Florida.
Derek Johnson, 39, was entered in the minivan competition for transit drivers from all over the country.
After competing in four events, Johnson earned 693 points. The winning driver received 815 points, while the last place contestant finished with 365 points.
The events, designed to promote the importance of day-to-day public service and professionalism, include a pretrip inspection, obstacle course, making sure a passenger is secure and a written exam.
Johnson earned an all-expense paid trip to the competition by winning the Indiana Para Transit Roadeo, which was conducted on April 18 at the Columbus Municipal Airport.
