2 firefighters hired by city for department

The Columbus Fire Department has hired two firefighters, Marcus Gruner and Michael Tucker.

Gruner, 23, is a graduate of New Palestine High School. He has been a firefighter with Sugar Creek Township for five years and is a state-certified basic EMT.

Tucker, 27, also is a graduate of New Palestine High School. He has been a firefighter with Buck Creek Township for five years and is a state-certified basic EMT. Tucker and his wife, Gabrielle, have a 3-week old daughter, Emma.

Both firefighters have been trained to the awareness and operations level for hazardous materials. Gruner and Tucker will undergo additional training with the department before they receive their station assignments.

They were swore in June 9 by Mayor Kristen Brown at the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting at Columbus City Hall.
