Jack G. Gatewood, 79, of Westport, passed away at 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
He was born on December 6, 1935, in Shelby County, Kentucky, the son of Gilbert W. and Emma T. (Hutton) Gatewood. He moved to Indiana in 1944 to the New Bethel community and has been a Westport resident since 1949. He had worked for the town of Westport for 24 years and was a home builder and contractor for 56 years. He was a member of the Rockcreek Baptist Church and enjoyed University of Kentucky basketball, playing pool, horse shoes, croquet, and riding his scooter.
He married Judy Landwehr in Jeffersonville on August 7, 1954, she survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Dianne (Michael) Swift of Muncie; his son, Tracy Kevin (Paula) Gatewood of Westport; his sister, Doris Osterman of Tampa, Florida; his brothers, Gayle (Betty) Gatewood and Clem “Jim” (Beverly) Gatewood both of Westport; his three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Wilma Jean Robertson, Marcelene McClintock and Ann Cramner; brothers, Maurice, Floyd, Carroll, Allen, Paul Aaron, Claude and Charles Gatewood.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Malone officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at the funeral home.
