After more than a year of study and discussion, the Bartholomew County CAFO Study Committee is wrapping up its activities by having an open house to present its recommendations to the public. According to Kris Medic, the study committee facilitator, the open house will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 28 in the county commissioners’ chambers on the first floor of the County Government Office Building at Third and Franklin streets in Columbus.
Unfortunately, the study committee has not reached a consensus. There will be a set of majority recommendations and a set of minority recommendations. It is now time for residents of Bartholomew County to let their county commissioners know how they feel about CFOs and CAFOs in our county.
If you are concerned about air and water quality in our county, decreased home property value within a mile of a CAFO, and worsening lung problems in children, the elderly or in those with compromised immune systems, please attend and share your opinions with our county commissioners at this upcoming open house.
