Alice Curry and David Bowden, executive director and conductor of Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, were named winners of the annual Patriot Awards by a local veterans group in recognition of their work and efforts in creating and sustaining “SALUTE!” concerts honoring veterans.


Bartholomew County Emergency Management and Bartholomew-Brown County American Red Cross gave a program titled “Be Quake Awake” in Columbus in an effort to educate locals about the dangers of and best response to earthquakes.


Total unemployment claims in the Columbus area increased by 27 from the week before, for a total of 229, 173 fewer than received during the same week in 1964.
