The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department will host jail officers from Bartholomew, Decatur, Monroe and Fayette counties for Jail Officer School on Monday through Nov. 6.
A 40-hour Jail Officers Course is part of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy’s mandatory ongoing training. All jail officers in county sheriff departments throughout the state must complete the jail officer training within a year of their start date.
The curriculum includes legal considerations from intake to release, jail security, medical issues, suicide prevention, abnormal behavior in inmates, stress management and Indiana Department of Corrections procedures, among others.
