E. Derrel Richardson, 89, of Westport, Indiana passed away at 4:50 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mr. Richardson was born June 6, 1926, in New Marion, Indiana, the son of Everett Dellsworth and Florence M. (Sawyer) Richardson. He spent his childhood in the area that is now in the Jefferson Proving Grounds. He attended the New Marion School and graduated from Jackson Township High School.

Derrel was lifelong farmer of Decatur County, an active member of the Sardinia Baptist Church and the Westport Masonic Lodge # 52 F.& A.M. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, working in his rose garden, fishing and enjoyed winters in Florida.

He married Ruth Ann Emly in Sardinia on Sept. 12, 1954. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Ann Mauer of Columbus; his sons, Douglas (Cindy) Richardson of Farmersburg and Greg (Betty) Richardson of Westport; his granddaughters, Christy Mauer of Columbus, Kylie (Zach) Maher of London Mill, Illinois, Elizabeth Mauer of Westport, Emily (Brian) Hannon of Rensselaer and Rachel Richardson of Westport; his grandsons, Jason Richardson of Anderson, Tyler Richardson of Westport, Paul (Stephanie) Creasey of Indianapolis; his great-grandchildren, James Robert Maher, Mason, Josie and Titus Hannon; his sister, Carol (Charles) Burnette of Evansville; his brother, Lewis (Wanda) Richardson of Port Charlotte, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brothers, Donald and Bob Richardson.

The funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at the Sardinia Baptist Church with the Revs. Tom Rust and Rick Swan officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery with military graveside services. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 12 noon until time of service at 2 p.m.
