Animal shelter open house set

Columbus Animal Care Services is inviting the community to its holiday open house from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the shelter at 2730 Arnold Drive.

Visitors are encouraged to tour the facilities, enjoy refreshments and meet the dogs and cats at the shelter. Information about volunteer and foster programs will be available.

Tax-deductible monetary donations will be accepted to the adoption medical fund or visitors may bring in donations of pet food, toys, treats, shampoo, collars, leashes and cat litter.

Animal Care Services Adoption Medical Fund does not use tax dollars and is funded by fines, fees and monetary donations. The donations cover spaying and neutering costs, pet care services, veterinarian treatment for pets housed at the facility, pet food and promotion of adoptions and educational programs.

For the fourth consecutive year, all healthy adoptable dogs have been placed in permanent homes or other rescue programs. The cat adoption rates have steadily increased over the same four years and are currently at all time highs, shelter officials said.
