Letter: Judge candidate connects with youth

It is with great pleasure that I recommend Kelly Benjamin as candidate for Bartholomew County Circuit Court Judge.

I first met Kelly nearly eight years ago when she volunteered as a Safe Dates educator for my 8th grade classes at Northside Middle School. Safe Dates is a specialized curriculum educating students about healthy dating, the signs of dating violence, and how to prevent sexual assault.

After witnessing Kelly’s ability to connect with students, Kelly was invited to speak to the entire Northside student body during the annual Positive Behavior Instructional Support (PBIS) Booster Day. Kelly had such a positive impact on our students that she has been invited back every January since. Kelly has shared information on topics such as cyberbullying, digital responsibility and the consequences of each.

Kelly has always displayed a high degree of integrity, responsibility and commitment to our students and their families. She is honest and genuine. Middle-schoolers may often act immaturely, but they have an uncanny ability to detect adults who are authentic. Kelly’s ability to create trust is immediately recognizable to them. Her good judgment and mature outlook will ensure a logical, fair and practical approach to the difficult decisions that a circuit court judge must make.

Kelly would be a wonderful asset to the Bartholomew County Judicial Court system and I am happy to give her my wholehearted endorsement.
