The Rockpile claims fourth straight broomball title

The Rockpile became the first team in the modern era to win four consecutive local broomball championships with a 6-0 shutout of Our Name is Earl.

The Rockpile, which went undefeated in the regular season, beat fourth-seeded Yoopers 5-3 in the semifinals behind goals from Matt Street, Stephanie Pigneri, Kayla Shine, Tyler Houchin and Tyler Douthitt. Ryan Ingalls scored all three goals for Yoopers.

In the finals, Street scored two goals, and Houchin, Ricky Hooten, Douthitt and Jon Stitcher all had one in the win against third-seeded Our Name is Earl.

Our Name is Earl advanced to the final with a 2-1 overtime win against second-seeded Monsters of Rock. Dane Bremer scored in regulation, and Tom Kareus scored the game-winner in a shootout for Our Name is Earl. Kathryn McCarthy scored for Monsters of Rock.

In the consolation game, Yoopers blanked Monsters of Rock 2-0 on goals from Ingalls and Thomas Rauznitz.

LACROSSE

East JV edges North

The Columbus East junior varsity pulled out an 11-9 win against Columbus North on Monday.

Noah Carlock, John Menefee and Tyler Cole all scored two goals for the Olympians, while Reed Nowling, Cody Horner, Darrien Nickerson, Jesse Reichenba and Zack Sutton all added one. Nowling, Jaedin Miller, Nickerson, Carlock and Dustin Rodgers all had an assist.

Jacob Elliot scored six goals for the Bull Dogs, while Jerman Whitman, Caleb Spencer and Cameron Hofelich all added one. Hofelich had three assists, and Elliott and Sean Sharp each had one. Devon Steward recorded six saves, and Anthony Valencia had four saves.

GOLF

Irish, Panthers tie

The St. Bartholomew and Jennings County Middle School teams played to a 214-214 tie at St. Annes.

Michael Gambaiani led the Irish with a 49. Nicholas Schiavello added a 54, while Luke Golding shot 55 and Joe Neal had a 56.

BOWLING

Bowler rolls 300 game

Dakota Burke notched a 300 game in the Wednesday Night Mixed League.

Burke also had the men’s high series with a 763. Carolyn Baldwin posted the women’s high game (203), and Bonnie Roberts had the women’s high series (528). Old Time Flea Market leads the team standings at 168-80.

Meanwhile, Courtney Barker rolled the women’s high game (248) and series (685) in the Merry Mixers Friday Night League, then again claimed the women’s high game (231) and series (621) in the Sunday Night Mixed League.

In the Merry Mixers Friday Night League, Steve Franklin recorded the mens high game (252), and Jamie England had the men’s high series (634). Spruce Ridge had the high handicap team game (1,009) and series (2,872).

Michael Cook notched the men’s high game (268) and series (675) in the Sunday Night Mixed League. The Dirty Turtle leads the team standings at 147-77.

Rick Wilson Jr. posted the high game (279) and series (762) in the Tuesday Night Men’s League. Independents had the team high game (1,354) and series (3,568). Enviro-Test leads the team standings at 168-80.
