Early voting shatters records

The record wasn’t just broken. It was shattered.

Even as early voting is continuing today and Monday, the 2016 primary has already drawn the largest pre-Election Day voter turnout in Bartholomew County history.

As of 7 p.m. Thursday, 4,099 voters had cast ballots in Bartholomew County, Clerk Jay Phelps said.

That’s nearly a thousand more than the previous record of 3,117 established during last year’s municipal primary.

Phelps said 806 ballots were cast Thursday, which surpasses the one-day record of 570 set three days earlier.

Early voting is continuing today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at four locations:

  • Bartholomew County Courthouse, 234 Washington St.
  • Donner Center, 739 22nd St.
  • MainSource Bank, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike
  • Flintwood Wesleyan Church, 5300 E. 25th St.

The final day for early voting will be Monday, from 8 a.m. until noon, at the Bartholomew County Courthouse.
