The Purdue Master Gardener Program training series will open Aug. 11 for area residents to sharpen their gardening skills.
The program provides information about a wide range of horticultural subjects which in turn allows participants to share that knowledge within the community through educational gardening activities. Thirty-five hours of volunteer service are needed to be certified as a Master Gardener.
Training will most often be on Thursdays, 9 a.m. until noon, at various classroom and garden locations. Orientation is Aug. 11 and classes continue through Nov. 10. Topics include home orchard, vegetable gardening, plant science, lawn care and herbaceous plants.
Materials for the series begin at $70 depending on the format selected. Fee assistance is available.
