Robert “Doug” Hendry, 67, of Columbus, died at 6:25 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2016, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Doug retired from the United States Post Office after 37 years of service. He was a member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 20, Columbus, for over 25 years and enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. His No. 1 passion was cooking and he attended and graduated from culinary school. Doug truly loved the Western Channel but absolutely hated Judi’s cats.
Mr. Hendry was born in Columbus, Indiana, March 25, 1949, to Robert and Gracie Reeves Hendry.
Survivors include his wife, Judi (Knight) Hendry; children, Karin (Warren Hacket) Hendry of Philadelphia and Robert “Rob” Hendry Jr. of Columbus; grandchildren, Olivia (Clint) Voris and Emily Stancombe, both of Trafalgar; a great-grandson, Ryder Voris of Columbus; his mother, Gracie Hendry of Columbus; a sister, Pamela Hendry of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Marsha (Dan) Maynard of Columbus; and several wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dean Hendry; a daughter, Wendy Arnold; and brothers, Gregory Hendry and Mart Hendry.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street, with a Masonic service to be conducted at 6:30 p.m.
In keeping with Mr. Hendry’s wishes, cremation is planned.
