Work will begin Monday on a large road-improvement project on County Road 450S, between County Road 50W and Interstate 65.
An estimated $550,000 in work is planned in the Walesboro area, including improving entrances to the industrial park, the existing Faurecia Technical Center and the company’s new Columbus South plant, and the intersection of State Road 58 and International Drive.
In the first phase of the work to be completed by the end of October, road widening, new signals and drainage improvements are planned. Additional work planned later will include adding a new traffic signal and intersection configuration for State Road 58 and International Drive.
The city awarded a $382,719.50 contract to Dave O’Mara Contractor Inc. of North Vernon for the first part of the project, with half that amount, about $191,000 to be funded through a grant from the state’s Industrial Development Grant Fund, city officials said. The remaining $191,000 is being paid through city tax increment financing proceeds.
County Road 450S will be open during construction, but motorists are asked to slow down and follow the construction signage in the area.
