Velma Guthrie passed away November 9, 2016, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home after a long illness.
She was born April 2, 1928, in Allendale, Illinois, to Winfred and Opal Jean Leek.
She married Ralph M. Guthrie November 6, 1949, in Campbellsburg, Indiana. He preceded her in death January 3, 2010.
Velma was a longtime member of East Columbus Christian Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and the years they spent in Charleston, South Carolina.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Bridgewater officiating. Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to East Columbus Christian Church.
She is survived by sons, Larry (Debra) of Columbus, Keith (Alma Wiley) of Elizabethtown and Dennis (Paula) of Murphy, North Carolina; and a sister, Rita Byers of Evansville. Other survivors include grandchildren, Erika Faris, Ryan (Sam) Walker, Chris (Chasity) Guthrie, Zach (Courtney) Pollert, Ruben and Ciela Guthrie, Sean (Christie) and Alexis Guthrie; and six great-grandchildren and another great-granddaughter due before month end. She has a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Evelyn Walker, Marjorie Hershey and Emma Jean Baker-Davis; and brothers, Kenneth Leek and Winfred Lavaun Leek.
