After seeing an Onion in the newspaper that was directly related to the weekend production of “Our Town,” I felt compelled to write something positive.
I have seen many productions of “Our Town” through the years. It is one of my favorite pieces of American literature (thanks, Shirley Lyster). I even directed “Our Town” some years ago. This was, without question, one of the best productions of the play I have ever seen.
These high school students displayed full understanding of the material and delivered wonderful performances. There was barely a dry eye in the house at the end. My hat is off to the students, the director and the theater program in general for a thoughtful and inspired production that I will never forget.
I find it disappointing and hard to understand when someone decides to single out something so insignificant in a production of such high quality delivered by outstanding young people. They should be applauded for their hours of work and their dedication to bringing such a first-rate production.
