A phone survey conducted by an Indianapolis firm and paid for by The Commons Board found that 60 percent of area residents contacted believed The Commons playground and public activity area should be preserved when the building was rebuilt.

New U.S. Census Bureau figures for the past 10 years reported a sharp decline in Bartholomew County’s rural population that outpaced the growth of the city and town populations.

A man who police said attempted to rob a Louden Food Fair employee in the store parking lot was shot about 90 minutes later by a Columbus policeman who was tracking him on foot along Flat Rock River north of Columbus.
