Jon Keith Proffitt, 57, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017, at the Eckstein Center in Scottsdale, surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 13, 1959, in Columbus, a son of the late Hazel and Eulala (Outland) Proffitt.

After graduating from Columbus East High School in 1977, Jon moved to Port Arthur, Texas, where he worked in the petroleum industry. Upon arriving in Arizona, he was employed with Hayden Electric, where he worked for over 20 years as an electrician and foreman. Jon was a member of the Paradise Valley Men’s Club and loved playing golf every weekend, watching football, listening to music from the ’70’s, playing guitar, viewing the night sky through his telescope and spending time with his family and friends. His big heart, sense of humor and thunderous laugh will be truly missed.

Jon is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerold; and nephew, Brian Proffitt.

Jon is survived by his wife of 24 years, Beth (Snyder); two children, Conner and Kelly Proffitt, both of Scottsdale; two sisters, H. Gene (Donald) Strietelmeier of Hope and Mary Ann (David) Foist Columbus; one nephew, Scott (Renee) and Jacob Strietelmeier Hope; two nieces, Suzanne Strietelmeier of Bloomington and Sara (Paul) Nash Carmel; three cousins, Linda and Eric Hadley Stedman, North Carolina, and Chad Hadley Columbus.

Visitation will be held from4:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Hansen Desert Hills Chapel, 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85254. In keeping with Jon’s wishes, cremation is planned with a private service to be held on Friday, Feb. 24th.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 Ea. Flower St,, Phoenix, Arizona 85014. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and doctors at the Sherman House and Eckstein Center for their kindness and support during Jon’s final days.
