Michael Nida, a 17-year veteran of the Columbus Fire Department, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant following the retirement of another longtime firefighter.
Nida has earned multiple training certifications: Emergency Medical Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Inspector, Aircraft Rescue, Technical Rescue Awareness, and Strategies and Tactics.
He is assigned to Squad 1, the department’s technical rescue response vehicle.
Nida is a 31-year veteran of the Indiana Army National Guard, and holds the rank of first sergeant. During his Army career, Nida has been deployed to Bosnia, Iraq and Kuwait.
His promotion was announced after the retirement of Lt. Steve Ahrmann in January. Ahrmann served 32 years with the department.
