O’Neal won the high jump, long jump and 400 meters Saturday to give the Olympians their only three event wins in a season-opening 90-33 loss against Bloomington South.
His performance last week: “I felt great about it. I performed well for the weather conditions and how cold it was.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just eat well the night before and get a good night’s rest.”

Best advice: “Don’t dwell on the past. Live in the present.”

FEMALE
Jordan Johnston, Columbus East freshman softball player
Johnston went 5 for 8 with four RBIs in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Bloomington South and picked up the win in the second game. She also notched a win in the season opener against Edinburgh earlier in the week.
Her performance last week: “I feel like I performed to the best of my ability, but I couldn’t do it my myself. I definitely had my teammates helping me through it all. They had my back on defense when I was pitching, and hitting, when I got on, they worked to help get me around.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I make sure I get enough sleep and just focus and make sure I’m prepared.”

Favorite book: “I like romance books.”
Favorite class: “Math”
Role model: “Within my family would probably be my mom (Jill Johnston) because she’s always pushed me. An athlete would be Jennie Finch.”
Best advice: “Play every game like it’s your last because you never know when it could be your last one.”
