Columbus police arrested a driver in a hit-and-run crash after a two-vehicle accident left three people with minor injuries.
A 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier rear-ended another vehicle in the 1200 block of U.S. 31 North at 5 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Witnesses told police the driver — later identified as Elijah J. Phillips, 19, of Elizabethtown — spun his tires as he fled the accident scene, Harris said.
Sgt. Ben Goodin stopped the vehicle a short time later near U.S. 31 and 10th Street, police said. Goodin said the Cavalier’s front bumper was dragging on the ground and about to fall off, Harris said.
Phillips was arrested on a preliminary charge of leaving the scene of an accident causing injury, driving while suspended with a prior conviction and operating a vehicle without insurance, Harris said.
Phillips was released from the Bartholomew County Jail after posting $5,000 bond, jail officials said.
