VERNON — The second annual July Jam in Vernon will be at the Vernon Gym on July 29 featuring a day of live music, a beer garden, food vendors and a car show.
The event is sponsored by Hippies Music and Events. The gates will open at 9 a.m. with free admission.
“There are a lot of things happening with music in Jennings County these days and we are hoping to keep that going. We have 10 bands signed and there will be music for everyone beginning at noon and going all day,” said Hippies Music and Events spokesman David E. Bishop.
“We had 500 or 600 people last year but, since we are not charging admission, we are expecting several thousand this year,” said Bishop.
In addition to offering a day of free music, Hippies Music and Events decided to include a car show.
“There are some really nice people who like to go to car shows and there are some really nice people who like to listen to music,” Bishop said. “We decided to bring those nice people together and maybe they can sit down together and get to know each other better.”
The July Jam is a rain-or-shine event with the majority of activities in the parking lot outside the Vernon Gym. If it rains, the activities will move into the gym.
The band Back In The Day will headline the day’s music, set to perform at 9 p.m.
Private vendors are welcome. Bishop said nonprofit groups are also welcome to set up a booth at the event to sell food or goods.
No coolers will be allowed at the event and people are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for seating in the areas surrounding the Vernon Gym.
