Former North swimmer named to USA Swimming national team

Michael Brinegar, who won two medals in the FINA Junior World Championships, has been named to the USA Swimming national team.

A former Columbus North student-athlete who just began his senior year at Tesoro High School in southern California, Brinegar is one of four 17-year-olds to make the team. He finished second in the 1,500-meter freestyle and third in the 800 freestyle in the Junior World Championships.

Golf For Independence to benefit those with disabilities

The LIFEDesigns Inaugural Golf For Independence will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Otter Creek Golf Course. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m.

Cost is $500 for a team or $125 for an individual and will include door prizes, hole-in-one prize, goodie bags and a raffle. Proceeds will benefit people with disabilities striving to gain independence.
