The Indiana Department of Transportation is warning late-night travelers on Interstate 65 that rolling roadblocks will begin late Monday night into Tuesday morning for utility work.
Bartholomew County REMC plans to remove a retired overhead communications line near mile marker 69, which is about a mile north of the main Columbus exit.
A southbound traffic slowdown will begin at mile marker 76 near Edinburgh. Northbound traffic will be slowed beginning at mile marker 64 at the Walesboro exit south of Columbus.
The rolling roadblocks, set for 1 a.m. Tuesday, are intended to stop all I-65 lanes of traffic at mile marker 69 for about 20 minutes to give REMC crews time to lower the overhead line and take it off the roadway. The Columbus exit to northbound I-65 will be closed as well as the southbound rest area exit at mile marker 73.5 during the 20-minute rolling roadblock, INDOT officials said.
Inclement weather could postpone the work.
