Ethan Summa, Columbus East senior football player

Summa recorded 15 tackles Friday to help the Olympians to a 42-13 semistate victory against Cathedral and a berth in the Class 5A state finals.

His performance last week: “I felt pretty good about it. It was definitely a team effort, though. My teammates were just in the right positions, but whenever it came up to make the tackle, it was just how we surround the ball.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Usually, I just go to Subway and get a sandwich before. Other than that, I just listen to music, and I usually fall asleep on the bus, too. That helps me get prepared for the game.”

Favorite drink: “Big Red”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite book: “The Hunger Games.”

Favorite class: “Finite math”

Role model: “My brother (Taylor Summa)”

Best advice: “Play the next down. Whenever the other team makes a play, don’t get down on yourself. Just get up and make the next play. ”

Athletics goal: “Just to win the state championship right now.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Utah or somewhere like Oregon, so I can be in the mountains.”

Britney Ballard, Columbus East senior basketball player

Ballard tallied 14 points, four assists and three steals in the Olympians’ 56-44 win at East Central. She had 12 points, seven assists and three steals in Saturday’s 71-48 win at Franklin Central.

Her performance last week: “Our team is really coming together, and I just wanted to help us get wins.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I listen to music and eat M&Ms.”

Favorite drink: “Powerade”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite book: “To Kill a Mockingbird”

Favorite class: “Sports nutrition”

Role model: “My dad (Alan Ballard)”

Best advice: “Don’t count yourself out.”

Athletics goal: “To hopefully get out of sectional this year and go as far as we can in the postseason.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Greece, because of the culture there. I just want to see everything that they have.”
