Walmart donation helps feed hungry

A Walmart store in Columbus has awarded a grant to a program that helps feed the hungry by paying the processing fees for donations of large game and livestock.

The Walmart at 735 Whitfield Drive donated $250 to Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry’s “Meat” the Need program.

Hunters and farmers may make donations, at no cost to them, by taking large game or livestock to a participating meat processor in their area.

The donations are processed and packaged in 1- to 2-pound packages, and frozen or canned. Local hunger-relief agencies are contacted about pickup and distribution of the meat.

“The grant provided by this store will pay for approximately 200 pounds of donated large game and livestock in Bartholomew County, which will then be distributed to area hunger-relief agencies — providing over 700 meals to resident in need within this community,” said Deb Treesh, executive director of Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry.
