Full of pep: Jennings County High School hosting band event

Jennings County High School’s pep band, also known as “The Best Pep Band in the Land,” will be hosting the Pep Band Extravaganza on March 3 in the main gym.

This event will include performances by local groups such as the Jennings County Middle School band, bands of other high schools and Jennings High’s guard, jazz band and dance team, with the pep band as the closing act. Bands begin playing at 2 p.m., and the Jennings High pep band will close the event with a performance at 6 p.m.

In between each of the performances, individuals from each of the performing groups will form teams to compete in minute-to-win-it-style competitions such as humorous relay races.

During the event, a consignment sale and vendor fair will be conducted in part of the school’s auxiliary gym starting at 1 p.m.

Clothing will sell for $10 per bagful, with the buyer being able to put as many clothing items into the bag that will fit. All of the money from the sales benefits the Jennings County Department of Bands. The other items being sold will be priced by their donors, and the proceeds will help students pay for band trips and expenses.

The vendor fair will be conducted in the other half of the auxiliary gym, where local sellers can display and sell their goods. Spots are open to all school-appropriate vendors for $35 for an 8-foot table with two chairs, or $50 to add a 10-foot by 10-foot display place. In order to secure a spot for the event, contact Chelsey Thompson, the director of the high school band and this event, at cthompson@jcsc.org.

In addition, a concession stand and a disc jockey will be part of the event.

Tickets for the entire event cost $10. After 5:30 p.m., tickets for just the pep band’s concert can be bought for $5. Any questions can be sent to cthompson@jcsc.org.
