Crusaders’ state title hopes end in semifinals

LAFAYETTE — Columbus Christian saw its bid for an ICSAA state title come to an end Saturday with a 48-33 semifinal loss to Granger Christian.

Kayla Jones made a shot at the buzzer to cut the lead to 21-12 at halftime. But the Crusaders (5-14) couldn’t make a run in the second half.

Jones finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 13 steals to lead Columbus Christian. Kaitlyn Conrad also had 11 rebounds.

Cougars lose game, star

GREENSBURG — South Decatur lost more than a basketball game Friday night. The Cougars lost their leading scorer and rebounder a week before they were to begin sectional play.

Matt Cornett went up for a dunk midway through the first quarter to give the Cougars a 10-2 lead against visiting Knightstown. But he came down on both wrists, breaking his right one.

South Decatur still led 16-10 after one quarter and 25-23 at halftime, but the Panthers rallied in the second half for a 66-62 victory.

Lane Lauderbaugh led the Cougars (4-19) with 30 points. Jacob Watts added 10.

Grizzly Cubs top Panthers

FRANKLIN — Travis Wilson scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Friday, but it wasn’t enough in Jennings County’s 72-59 loss at Franklin.

Landin Hacker added 19 points for the Panthers (5-18). Gage Walters scored 10.

Shiners outscore Trinity

RISING SUN — Trinity Lutheran put up 37 points in the fourth quarter Friday, but couldn’t overcome a 68-44 deficit in a 91-81 loss at Rising Sun.

Jacob Rowe led the Cougars (7-16) with 24 points. Tyler Goecker added 21, while AJ Goecker had 14 and Trent Shoemaker contributed 13.
