Made your plans yet for St. Patrick’s Day? If your day isn’t completely filled, come to the Hope Town Square, which will be filled with dogs and their masters entered in the first St. Patrick’s Day Pooch Parade.
Main Street of Hope is organizing the event, with competition in two age divisions — 12 and younger, and older than 12. Each division will award ribbons or prizes in three categories:
- The most Irish-looking dog
- The most Irish-looking dog and owner
- People’s Choice
People can sign up today on the north side of Hope Town Square starting at 11 a.m., with the pet parade starting at noon.
A $5 registration fee will benefit the Paula A. Pollitt Animal Shelter, which opened a year ago at 1101 Jackson St. in Hope. It is named for the Pollitt, a Hope Town Council member who died in 2015, who had advocated for an animal shelter. All dogs in the contest must be spayed/neutered, with owners having proof of vaccines if requested at the event.
Don’t have a dog? No worries. Come to catch the fun anyway.
Information booths will include representatives from the Bartholomew County Humane Society, City of Columbus Animal Care Services, Neuter Scooter and the Paula A. Pollitt Animal Shelter.
Donated, pet-friendly items also will be auctioned to benefit the animal shelter.
