An 86-year-old Columbus woman died after being hit by a car on Flintwood Drive.
Columbus police said June E. Markham, 86, who lived on Flintwood, was in the roadway at 8:15 p.m. Monday when she was struck by a 2017 Sonata driven by Martha A. Powell, 70, of Columbus.
Police said Powell was driving northbound on Flintwood when the accident occurred and did not see Markham in the roadway prior to the collision, which occurred after dark.
Markham was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the Bartholomew County Coroner’s office, police said.
Markham died of blunt force trauma to the chest, Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting said.
Powell was given a blood test, which showed no signs of intoxication or impairment, Columbus police said. Markham’s cause of death has been ruled accidental.
