Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge in Madison will conduct a youth turkey hunt April 21 to 22.
A total of 105 youths ages 17 or under will be selected, and each youth will be notified by mail. Those selected may attend an optional turkey hunting luncheon/workshop at noon April 21 and a turkey hunt April 22. The luncheon will feature door prizes and expert presentations on turkey hunting.
Hunt areas can be reserved by youths April 21 during the workshop. Youths must have a responsible adult as a guide and the youths will be the only one allowed to hunt. Each youth and guide must attend a refuge safety briefing, and the youth’s acknowledgement of danger form must also be signed by a responsible adult. Big Oaks NWR will follow state regulations with regard to Hunter Safety requirements for each youth.
