COLUMBUS
Hilma Susan Shonk, 100, of Columbus, died at 12:38 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Hickory Creek of Franklin.
Hilma was born June 28, 1917, in Johnson County, the daughter of Berry and Virginia Thompson Doyle.
She played crossword puzzles for 60 years and truly loved life. Hilma never complained.
While staying in Florida, she really enjoyed the beach and the sun. However, spending time with her grandchildren and family was what she loved to do the most.
Survivors include her children, William (Maudie) of Columbus, Opal McElroy and Laura Noe, both of Indianapolis; grandchildren, DeeDee (Scott) Haymaker, Barry (Tonia) Medaris, both of Columbus, Susan (Tom) Coil of Fortville, Jeff (Jennifer) Medaris of Indianapolis, Greg (Sherry) Medaris of Avon; many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Morris Doyle of Whiteland, Carl (Jan) Doyle of Franklin; brother-in-law, Ray Matlock of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; sisters, Alice Matlock, Mary, Nova, Nettie and Juanita Doyle and Barbara Shepard, brothers, Chester, Hershal, Newman, Bill and Joseph Doyle, Joseph Medaris; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Doyle.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Brace Rutledge officiating. Family and friends may call Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Entombment will be at Washington Park North Mausoleum.
