COLUMBUS
John L. Kunze, 49, of Columbus, died unexpectedly at 12:39 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2018 at his home.
John was born October 17, 1968, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Rae Richter.
On July 4, 2010, he married Lisa Myers in Waynesville, Indiana.
Mr. Kunze enjoyed shooting his guns and playing with his grandchildren.
He was a hard worker who found humor in complaining, but always did what was asked of him anyway.
John will be remembered as the best attentive and patient dad ever.
His immense love for his Boxer, Brutus Beefcake, and Pepsi will never be forgotten and were apparent in his daily life.
Survivors include his wife of eight years, Lisa; children, Phoenyx Michaels, Ian (Ashly) Michaels, Rhianna Michaels, all of Columbus, Amber Burris of Decatur, Illinois; 11 grandchildren (whom he nicknamed “cock roaches”); siblings, Marie Stephens, Janiece (Mark) Sterling, both of Decatur, Illinois, Richard Kunze; several nieces and nephews and his beloved Boxer, Brutus Beefcake.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rae Richter; sister, Evelyn Moore, and brother, Donald Smith.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike. There will be no service following the gathering. In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
