Olympians drop heartbreaker to No. 1 Irish

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus East matched Class 4A No. 1 Cathedral with three hits, but the Irish plated an unearned run in the sixth to claim a 1-0 victory.

The Olympians (5-4) had runners on first and second with one out in the seventh, but couldn’t capitalize.

East’s Julian Greenwell threw a three-hitter and struck out 11. Nash Murphy went 2 for 2 with a double to lead the offense.

Jets wallop Waldron

WALDRON — Class A No. 1 Hauser scored 21 times in the first three innings en route to a 23-1, five-inning Mid-Hoosier Conference win at Waldron.

Sean Miller went 5 for 6 with three doubles and two RBIs, and Aaron Mee threw a one-hitter and had three RBIs to lead the Jets (8-2, 5-0).

Parker Eickbush went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, and Sam Meek went 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Jon Hatton went 2 for 4, Jacob Luken had three RBIs, Trey Johnson had a double and two RBIs and Kobe Meahl had two RBIs.

Chargers top Lancers

EDINBURGH — North Decatur avenged a home loss to Edinburgh a night earlier with an 8-4 MHC victory at Edinburgh.

Zach Murphy went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs for the Lancers (3-4, 3-3).

Eagles win in five

NASHVILLE — Grant Suding went 3 for 4 and threw a five-hitter to lead Brown County to a 13-3, five-inning win against Eastern Greene.

Isaac Weddle went 2 for 3, and Jake Riehl and J.T. Parry each went 2 for 4 for the Eagles (3-8). Isaiah Luenebrink and Justin Partyka each had two RBIs.

South Decatur falls

GREENSBURG — Milan scored four runs in the top of the seventh to rally for a 13-12 win at South Decatur.

Devon Martin went 3 for 4, and Jalen Winchester went 3 for 5 with four RBIs for the Cougars (0-6). Luke Eden and Bryce Lang each went 2 for 5, and Nolan Storm had two RBIs.

GIRLS TENNIS

Bull Dogs prevail

INDIANAPOLIS — No. 14 Columbus North pulled out a pair of three-set matches to claim a 4-1 Conference Indiana win at Southport.

Madelyn Sanders beat Madison Lukas 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Eva Chevalier downed Camille Lielsen 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Shweta Srinivasan topped Jenny Polly 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs (5-1, 2-0). Yijiang Zhao and Servane Cloteaux beat Aubrey Rupone and Rachel Dean 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.

North’s Ali Bergman and Mariana Martinez fell to Brooke Madon and Raewyn Updike 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Cubs edge Olympians

MADISON — Columbus East swept the doubles matches, but Madison swept the singles matches to hand the Olympians a 3-2 loss.

Megna Chari and Kathryn Hodzen blanked Hannah Huff and Emma Lostetter 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Jenna Shoaf and Ayano Nomura beat Grace Braughtigan and Carie Darnold 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles for East (2-4).

The Olympians’ Louna Prince fell to Kourtney Neukam 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, Emie Kiser lost to Regin Dean 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Maddy Rhodes fell to Olivia Kelly 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Jets blank Mohawks

HOPE — Hauser swept the singles matches and won both doubles matches by default in a 5-0 MHC win against Waldron.

Alana Owen beat Hailey Huber 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Madie Sherman blanked Caroline Schaeffer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Catherine Bruer downed Lily Sizemore 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Jets (4-1, 2-0).

Panthers stop Stars

BEDFORD — Jennings County claimed a pair of three-set wins to pull out a 4-1 win at Bedford North Lawrence.

Hailey Brown beat Presley Clark 6-7 (4), 7-6 (1), 14-12 at No. 1 singles, Rebecca Driver downed Alex Godsey 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Ellie Hearne topped Kiara Terry 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (4-2). Maddy Hill and Callie Wilder beat McKenzie Messmore and Abby Riley 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Jennings’ Courtney Lykins and Abigail DeCamp fell to Sara Gaither and Abbey Bridges 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles fall to Cubs

FRANKLIN — Brown County managed only six games in the five matches in a 5-0 loss at Franklin.

Julia Williams fell to Kate Heuchan at No. 1 singles, Cassidy Davis lost to Alexa Wilkinson at No. 2 singles and Grace Baughman fell to Jaclyn Boardman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, all by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Jacey Ferguson and Baelyn Koester lost to Daryn Honeyman and Abi Smith 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles (3-5). Leah Tucker and Olivia Baughman fell to Allison Bennett and Rachael Pinnicki 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Jets coast to win

WALDRON — Class A No. 4 Hauser scored seven times in the first inning and went on to post a 16-2, five-inning MHC win at Waldron.

Hunter Crain allowed two hits over four innings, and Zoee Nading pitched a hitless fifth for the Jets (5-2, 4-1).

Shelby Fugate went 3 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the offense. Nading went 2 for 2, Mykenzie Ault went 2 for 3 with a double, Hannah Johnson went 2 for 3, Sydney Schoen went 2 for 4 and Nichole Patezel had a triple and three RBIs.

Edinburgh-North Decatur

EDINBURGH — Maddi Clark threw a two hitter and went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs to lead Class A No. 8 Edinburgh to a 12-0, five-inning MHC win against North Decatur.

Vanessa McManaway and Paige Burton each went 2 for 2 for the Lancers (6-2, 5-1).

Eagles down Monrovia

NASHVILLE — Emma Summers threw a four-hitter and 2 for 4 with a double to lead Brown County to a 5-1 win against Monrovia.

Adri Kritzer went 3 for 4 with a home run for the Eagles (7-2).

Trinity tops Raiders

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran scored at least two runs in every inning an an 11-1, five-inning win against South Ripley.

Genesis Munoz, Savannah Harweger, Chloe Criswell and Morgan Gabbard all had two hits for the Cougars (3-3). Criswell had three RBIs, and Harweger and Munoz each added two.

BOYS GOLF

Jets take second

GREENSBURG — Hauser finished second in a tri match at North Branch. Batesville won with a 182 to 204 for the Jets and 207 for North Decatur.

Justin Compton led Hauser with a 42. Sam Johnson carded a 50, Matt Sweet added a 53, Ethan Wallace shot 59 and Justin Stafford had a 60.

Hauser girls victorious

HOPE — Grace Hasler won three events and ran a school record 12.9 seconds  in the 100 meters to lead the Hauser girls to a 69-54 win against Waldron.

Halser also won the 100 hurdles (15.9) and 300 hurdles (49.4). Adonah Riddle took the shot put (28 feet, 1 1/2 inches), and Mel Hasler captured the 400 (1:13.0). The Jets also swept the 4×800 (12:44.0), 4×100 (53.1) and 4×400 (4:53.0) relays.

The Mohawks won the boys meet 93-52. Jon Bragg led Hauser with wins in the high jump (5-11) and long jump (17-11).

Also for the Jets, Taylor Benge took the 100 (12.9), David Newcomb captured the 400 (1:03.0) and Joe Sweet won the 300 hurdles (48.3). Hauser also took the 4×400 relay (4:12.5).
