Oliver Wilcoxson

UVALDE, TEXAS

Oliver Wilcoxson passed away on April 16, 2018 at the age of 84 in San Antiono Texas.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1934 in Columbus, to Oliver and Helen (Jones) Wilcoxson.

He is survived by his daughter, Melinda (Ron) Dinn of Columbus, daughter Karen Wilcoxson of Seymour; granddaughter Megan Powell and great-granddaughter Ella Mogan Powell of Columbus, daughters Tonya (Don) Sponsler, Carrie Wilcoxson and son, Glen Wilcoxson, all of Texas, as well as sisters Imogene Emmert of Columbus, Shirley Laughlin of Mississippi and Patty Parker Oklahoma. He has extended family in both Texas and Indiana.

Known as Ollie by family and Will by his friends, he attended Columbus High School and he then enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served his tour in Kodiak, Alaska.

After his duty, he married Alice Morgan of Columbus and they relocated to Texas, where he as a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union, a trade that he worked until his retirement.

As a young man, he was an avid bowler, but his passion was fishing. He always found a place to drop a line even in arid west Texas.

There was always a game of solitaire laid out somewhere and you could count on him as a fourth in a fast game of euchre.

At the time of his death, he was making his home with his daughter, Tonya Sponsler in Uvalde, Texas.

He was very much loved and he will be missed greatly by his family.

We wish him a shady river bank where the fish are always biting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Gene Wilcoxson and his sisters, Laverne Davis and Nancy Collins-Ferell.

In keeping with his wishes cremation was planned and all services were held in Uvalde, Texas.
