Local woman arrested on charges of auto theft, heroin possession

A local woman was arrested early this morning at a Columbus store on auto theft and drug-related charges.

Columbus police were sent to the 700 block of Whitfield Drive at 3:30 a.m. today about a store loss prevention officer seeking assistance, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the security officer and Ashley Hadley, 27, if 6134 S. Jonesville Road, Harris said.

Officers confirmed there was a pending local warrant for Hadley’s arrest, and also spoke with her about a stolen vehicle they had recovered at a Columbus apartment complex, Harris said.

When Hadley was being booked into the Bartholomew County Jail, corrections staff located a syringe with heroin that Hadley had concealed in her clothing, Harris said.

She was arrested on preliminary charges of auto theft, possession of heroin, possession of a legend drug injection device and a Bartholomew County warrant, jail officials said.

She was being held in the jail with a bond set at $123,250, jail officials said.
