West State Road 46 at Old Nashville Road is closed in both directions because of a serious accident involving multiple vehicles that occurred at about 8 a.m. today, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Only one minor injury has been reported so far, investigators said, but the road is blocked as emergency responders work to clear the accident scene.
Deputies are asking motorists to avoid the area if possible.
Investigators believe a pickup truck had slowed in the westbound lane to turn left on Old Nashville Road when a passenger car rear ended the pickup, pushing the pickup into the path of an eastbound tanker, which rolled into the ditch.
Sheriff deputies, Columbus police accident reconstruction specialists, and Harrison Township firefighters are at the scene, along with Indiana State Police.
