Two years ago, a new Columbus-based women’s broomball team did not score a goal in its first national tournament.
Now, the Wicked Sisters are national champions.
The team beat No. 4-ranked Synergy from Minneapolis 2-0 on April 15 to capture the National B division in at the 2018 USA Broomball National Tournament. Beth Lutz and Beth Lipton scored the goals.

Playoff schedule set
Frasier Chiropractic and MVP blanked Gridiron Monsters 21-0, On Tap beat Hard Up 24-13 and Hard Up topped Shockers 34-24 in the final week of the Columbus Flag Football League season.
Monstars, On Tap and Hard Up all finished with 4-2 records, with Monstars claiming the top seed for today’s tournament. Frasier Chiropractic and MVP (2-4) will play Shockers (1-5) at noon, with the winner meeting Monstars at 1 p.m. On Tap will face Hard Up at 1 p.m., and the championship will be at 2 p.m.

Irish top Chargers
Willy Davis won medalist honors with a 44 to lead St. Bartholomew to a 182-217 win against Central Wednesday at Harrison Lake.
John Merritt carded a 45 for the Irish. Spencer Erfmeier added a 46, and John Ferguson had a 47.
Damon Gregory led the Chargers with a 46. Jacob Bowman added a 52.
On Monday, St. Bartholomew beat St. Mary’s from Greensburg 188-215 at Harrison Lake. Davis won medalist honors with a 43, while Ferguson and Jack Schiavello each shot 48, Merritt added a 49, Erfmeier had a 53 and Pete Coriden finished with a 54.
Jennings takes 11th
Jennings County finished 11th with a 452 in the Bedford North Lawrence Middle School Invitational at Otis Park.
Brett Silvey led the Panthers with a 97. Tanner Stearns added a 113, Drew Yeager and Evan Sochacki each shot 121 and Sophia Curry had a 130.

Pirates down Panthers
Jennings County Middle School’s boys fell to Greensburg 97-38 on Thursday.
Logan McIntosh led the Panthers with wins in the 1,600 meters (5 minutes, 26 seconds) and 800 (2:30). Lane Elsner took the 400 (55.6), and Jennings won the 4×800 (10:07) and 4×400 (4:11) relays.
