Brian’s picks

1) Area high schoolers frequently have not understood that, when I get excited about their renditions of hits, say, from the 1960s through 1980s at the annual American Pie history-related rock concert, it’s because I recall the days when the tunes debuted. Plus, seeing students singing classic rock like James Brown or even Jackson Browne still is a thrill. The latest version of the magical history tour will revolve around the theme “Changes: 1955 to 1975” at 7:15 p.m. Friday in Judson Erne Auditorium at Columbus North High School, 1400 25th St. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults, available at the Columbus North and Columbus East high schools’ bookstores, and possibly at the door.

2) Online music clips of the Hot Horns band seems to be all as advertised coming into Columbus for an “All That Jazz” concert at 7 p.m. Saturday for the St. Bartholomew Music series at the Catholic church, 1306 27th St. The free program will highlight the history of American jazz.
