Purdue graduate receives leadership award
A Columbus native who recently graduated from Purdue University received a leadership award during commencement ceremonies.
Megan R. Hetisimer, who graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering, was among six students who were awarded the Charles O. McGaughey Leadership Award during commencement ceremonies. McCaughey was a 1939 Purdue graduate and established the award to honor students for leadership potential.
Recipients are selected on the basis of their contributions to Purdue and the community with each honoree receiving $3,345 as an acknowledgement of their superior leadership abilities, scholarship and appreciation of basic American values, according to the university.
Ivy Tech faculty member receives President’s Award
An Ivy Tech Community College Columbus faculty member has received a President’s Award.
Richard Lamborn, assistant department chair in behavioral sciences and associate professor of psychology, was among 19 faculty members from across the state who received the award, which recognizes individuals who exemplify the college’s mission.
Recipients are given a pre-tax award of $5,000 and a $1,000 grant for instructional supplies and materials, according to Ivy Tech.
Student receives award
A Columbus native attending the University of Alabama recently received an Outstanding Senior Award.
Tyler Lyons received the award from the National Alumni Association of the University of Alabama. The award is given to students who excel in academics, extracurricular activities, show strength of character and display exceptional hospitality, according to the university.
