Woman arrested after fleeing from store security and police

A local woman was arrested on several drug-related charges after she was accused of attempting to flee from Columbus police officers at a local store.

Officers were sent to the 700 block of Whitfield Drive at 12:30 a.m. Monday morning about a woman who was believed to be shoplifting in the store, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The woman, later identified as Amanda J. Redford, 31, of 12406 S. Hillview Drive, refused to stop for store security and fled from the store, Harris said. She was caught by police after a short foot pursuit in the parking lot.

Officers later recovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside Redford’s purse, Harris said. She was arrested on preliminary charges of theft, resisting law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine, Harris said.
