Around Town – May 16

Orchids to …

• the person who placed my dropped cellphone on my windshield at Sam’s Club on Saturday night.

• Randy Gratz and Blake Manuel at Central Middle School for making your teachers feel appreciated last week and every day.

• the extremely nice postal worker who took my package in the Clover Center on his stop at a business.

• Cummins Inc. for the beautiful roses they delivered on May 11 to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

• neighbors who put up the American flag in the Lagoons neighborhood.

• all the doctors at St. Francis Hospital in Greenwood for the excellent emergency treatment and surgery, from Bob H.

• Jess and Helen Alpha on Four Mile Ridge Road in Brown County for mowing my lawn and being so kind and generous, from Betty Dietrich.

Onions to …

• the rude driver in the SUV who made a U-turn in front of the post office, cutting off those trying to park.

• anyone who displays any hateful flag, whether it is the Confederate flag or the anti-Trump flag.

• those who decided to shrink Rocky Ford Road down to one lane each way.

• the business that is moving, leaving behind customers that can’t get to the other side of town, likely creating another empty building in a city with too many.

• the city for spending millions to widen Rocky Ford Road only to narrow it back down to one lane each way when it’s finally done.

• the person who thinks farmers don’t have the right to be on the road.

• the co-worker who always has something or someone to complain about.

• those allowing the Interstate 65 overpass on County Road 200S to be a series of potholes.

• those that spread gossip instead of trying to help others, especially when it’s family.

• this community because most of the fundraising events involve alcohol.

• those who complain about farmers’ driving.

• people who whine and try to make everything that happens on the face of earth about race, when it’s not.

• the facility that eliminates services, reduces staff and reduces hours of operation, yet raises membership fees.

• the medical providers for not finding the cause of an agonizing abdominal pain after several visits over several months.

• the city of diversity for criticizing someone for displaying a certain flag.

• those responsible for not having painted center lines on the county road just north of Petersville, because it’s really dangerous.

• men who aren’t careful about what they say to women, because it is important.

• the churchgoing man at work who displays anger and negativity anyway.

• the city for spending $75,000 on a study that a minimum-wage intern could figure out using Google.

• those forcing me to have to pay attention to what’s behind me in the bike lanes when they don’t follow the rules of the road to begin with.
