UNIFIED TRACK
Bull Dogs win sectional
BORDEN — Columbus North won the school’s first Unified track sectional title Saturday by running away with the Borden Sectional.
The Bull Dogs scored 132 points, while Floyd Central edged North Harrison 102 1/2 to 101 1/2 for second. Those three schools advance to Saturday’s Bedford North Lawrence Regional.
Columbus East finished fourth with 82 points. Jennings County was eighth with 66.
Bailey Hester in the 100 meters (11.67 seconds) and Ross Gill in the 400 (55.93) won the fastest heats of those events to lead the Bull Dogs. Dalton Kirk won his heat of the 100 in 15.40, and Randall Watts took his heat of the 400 in 1:32.03. Anthony Ashcroft, Matt Boldrey, Gill and Josh Holley captured their heat of the 4×100 relay in 53.21.
Points are awarded on an equal basis for all five flights of the shot put and long jump, all five heats of the 100 and 400 and all three heats of the 4×100 relay.
East’s Adam Schlehuser finished second in the fastest heat of the 400 (58.75). Morgan Meier took second in her flight of the shot put (27 feet, 11 inches), and Devon Reese was second in his flight of the long jump (3-6 1/2).
Owen Bonesteel won his flight of the long jump (12-3 1/2) and his heat of the 100 (14.72) to lead the Panthers. Bethany Jewell also won her heat of the 100 (21.79).

North takes two
INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North routed Western Boone 20-1 in five innings, then blanked Charlestown 2-0 in the North Central Invitational.
Jake Petrusky threw a four-hitter and struck out seven, and the Bull Dogs scored at least three runs in every inning against Western Boone. Tyler Finke went 3 for 3 with a double, Casper Clark went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and Parker Maddox went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs.
Maddox threw a two-hit shutout against Charlestown. Adam Champan and Grant Trinkle each went 2 for 3 for North (17-9).
East rallies for win
INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus East trailed Lawrence Central 5-1 after five innings before scoring 10 times in the sixth to rally for an 11-8 victory to close the regular season.
Nash Murphy went 3 for 5, and Julian Greenwell went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs for the Olympians (17-7). Josh Major went 2 for 4, Jonah Wichman went 2 for 5 and Alec Burnett had a homer and three RBIs.
Kaden Wise picked up the win in relief of Drew Hasson. Cole Gilley pitched the final inning to earn the save.
East was rained out of Saturday’s second scheduled game against West Lafayette Harrison.
Panthers edge Braves
MADISON — Jennings County wrapped up the regular season with a 3-2 win against Brownstown Central.
Josh Pettit threw a six-hitter and struck out 10 for the Panthers (4-18). Jamin VanVolkenburgh went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs.
Eagles finish with win
NASHVILLE — Grant Suding threw a two-hitter and went 2 for 3 with two RBIs to lead Brown County to a 6-1 win against Salem to close the regular season.
John Wayne Ziegler went 2 for 3, and Justin Partyka went 2 for 4 with a triple for the Eagles (8-14). Isaiah Luenebrink had two RBIs.

Panthers down Trojans
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to break a 2-2 tie and close the regular season with a a 4-2 win against East Central.
Lexi Brown went 2 for 2 with a double, and Madi Skinner went 2 for 3 with a double for the Panthers (12-12). Gabby Mahoney threw a seven-hitter in picking up the win.

Eagle wins medalist
NEW CASTLE — Parker VanNess won medalist honors with a 2-over-par 72 to lead Brown County to a fifth-place finish in the New Castle Invitational with a 378. New Castle won with a 322.
Ben Rygiel added a 94 for the Eagles. Curtis Lookebill and Brendon Asher each shot 106, and Peyton Proctor had a 113.

Panthers fall in final
GREENSBURG — Madison Shawe pulled out third-set tiebreakers at both No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles to top Jennings County 3-2 for the Greensburg Sectional title.
Both wins for the Panthers (14-6) came in doubles. Maddy Hill and Callie Wilder beat Phoebe Grote and Abigail Hill 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Courtney Lykins and Abigail DeCamp downed Cayden Hambrick and Kelly Hesse 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Jennings’ Rebecca Driver fell to Megan Hesse 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) at No. 1 singles, and Hailey Brown lost to Katrina Gobert 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (1) at No. 2 singles. Ellie Hearne fell to Kate Gorte 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
