Damon Hunter Jr., Columbus North senior track athlete
Hunter won the 100 meters, finished second in the 200 and ran on the winning 4×100 relay and third-place 4×400 relay teams to help lead the Bull Dogs to the North Sectional title.
His performance last week: “I felt like going into the 100, that was the race I was most confident in. I knew if I could do what I was planning to do and get as good a start as I wanted to and finish strong, I could be good.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I usually go home, try not to eat too big of meals and then just rest up, try to get my legs rested and just chill at home.”
Favorite drink: “Minute Maid Lemonade”
Favorite food: “Chicken fried rice”
Favorite book: “Harry Potter”
Favorite class: “Economics”
Role model: “My dad (Damon Hunter Sr.)”
Best advice: “Just give all you’ve got all the time.”
Athletics goal: “Hopefully finish this year off going on to state in an individual and take our relay to state. Just try to get as much confidence as I can going to St. Francis next year (to play football).”
If you could travel anywhere: “The Bahamas, because it looks real nice down there.”
FEMALE
Yijiang Zhao, Columbus North senior tennis player
Zhao won No. 1 singles matches against both Brown County and Hauser in straight sets last week to help lead the Bull Dogs to the Columbus East Sectional championship.
Her performance last week: ”I was hitting the ball better than I was before, so that’s pretty nice.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just do my best at practice and get myself in the right mindset.”
Favorite drink: “Gatorade”
Favorite food: “Pasta”
Favorite book: “Harry Potter”
Favorite class: “Calculus”
Role model: ”My mom (Xiaoqin Zhou).”
Best advice: “Just do your best, relax and play to win.”
Athletics goal: ”For this year, I want to get to state. We’ll see how that goes.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Japan because the cherry blossoms are really pretty when they bloom, and also sushi. Sushi is great.”
