Pool opening delayed due to maintenance

Donner Aquatic Center will miss its targeted opening date because some needed maintenance must be completed.

Local residents who have been waiting to cool off in the city’s pool this weekend must now wait until Tuesday, city officials said.

Recent rainy weather made it impossible for workers to apply sealant to the leisure and slide pools as had been planned, said Columbus Parks and Recreation Aquatics Director Jim Lemke.

Lemke had hoped that the spray-on sealant would be applied last week, so the pool could be filled this week, and warmed up in time for Memorial Day weekend.

The sealer requires four days to dry, and the heavy rain of the past week pushed the project back too far for the pool to meet its initial opening deadline.

“Anytime we can’t open to the public, I am disappointed,” Lemke said. “But I can’t foresee any reason we won’t open on the 29th (Tuesday).”
