Loren Gene Hooten, 82, of Columbus, passed away at 5:57 a.m. on May 28, 2018, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Gene was born November 2, 1935, in Decatur County, the son of Loren Ray and Laura Marie Davis Hooten.

He married Sherry D. Harrison on February 18, 1977.

Gene loved driving for Kiel Brothers Oil, Johnson Oil and Thomas Trucking.

He loved trips to Gatlinburg, going out to eat with family and friends, watching NASCAR, and was an avid bird watcher.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018, at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Wes Jones officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and one hour prior to service time Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry; daughters, Gena Beaman and Amy Jo Giles, both of Columbus, sons, Darryl Gene Hooten and Loren Ja Hooten, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Jenifer Spires, Jesse Beaman, Jake Beaman, Ethan Cole Hooten and Austin Lee Giles; great-grandchildren, Gavin Hart and Gabriana Secuskie; and sisters, Rita (Tilford) Hoover of Columbus, Fran (Terry) Baker of Ellettsville, Lu Ann Stevens of Greensburg and Le Ann (Todd) Biehle of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren Ray Hooten and Laura Marie Badgley; brothers, William Hooten and Don Hooten; and a sister, Beth Stillman.
