Damage significant from Columbus house fire

No injuries were reported in an early morning house fire on the northeast side of Columbus that caused significant damage.

Firefighters were sent to 2735 Bittersweet Blvd. for a residential fire at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday. A female resident escaped the fire after hearing a working smoke alarm, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters were at the scene within five minutes and had been told the back of the home, a screened porch, was fully in flames, Wilson said.

The fire was under control within 10 minutes of the first firefighters arriving at the scene, Wilson said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $90,000, he said.

Assisting at the scene were the Columbus Police Department, Columbus Regional Health ambulance, Duke Energy, Vectren and Columbus City Utilities.
