Health screenings coming up in June

A blood test used to diagnose diabetes, as well as to gauge how well diabetics are managing their condition, will be provided by the Bartholomew County Health Department this month.

Early detection and treatment of diabetes can help reduce the risk of serious complications such as premature heart disease, stroke, blindness, limb amputations and kidney failure, according to the Mayo Clinic website.

Besides the A1C blood sugar screenings, hemoglobin testing will also be provided to check for blood diseases such as anemia. People being screened can eat and drink normally before the test.

The tests will be provided by appointment only during the mornings of both June 12 and June 26 at the health department’s nursing division, located at 2675 Foxpointe Drive, Suite B.

The cost for the diabetes test is $12, while the hemoglobin check is $2.  Cash, debit or credit card will be accepted.
