Services and studies

First Baptist — The Rev. Dan Cash will deliver his sermon, “Framing a New Picture for Ministry,” with Scripture from Matthew 5:17-20, at the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive. The Men of Faith fellowship meets at 6:15 a.m. Fridays for breakfast and Bible study at Four Seasons Retirement Center, 1901 Taylor Road.

Flintwood Wesleyan — Amplify (nontraditional) at 9 a.m. and The Well (traditional) at 11 a.m. will both be led by Pastor Wes Jones in the main sanctuary of the church, 5300 E. 25th St., and celebrate the congregation’s recent graduates. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. and Sunday school classes will meet at 10 a.m. in their regular rooms. Adult choir practice will take place at 5 p.m., followed by the evening Bible study at 6 p.m.

The women’s study group, Connections, meets at 10 a.m. the second and fourth Monday of each month in The Friendship Center.

A Christian Journey with Paul meets at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday, also in The Friendship Center. New members are welcome. Prior classes are not necessary.

The Prayer Team will meet at 6 p.m. and adult Bible study will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in The Friendship Center.

Vacation Bible school, starting at 9:30 a.m. and ending at noon, will take place June 25-28 at the church. This year’s theme is “Game On!” Volunteers are needed and may sign up by contacting Pastor Tracey Carter.

Westside Community — Pastor Dennis Aud will lead the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd. His message will be “The Next Generation.” Scripture will include Psalm 78:1-8. High school graduates will be celebrated during worship, after which a reception will immediately follow. The children’s program up through grade 6 will meet at the same time as the service.

St. Paul Lutheran — Pastor Doug Bauman will deliver the message, “Sunday is the New Sabbath,” based on Mark 2:23-28, at the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday at the church, 6045 E. State St. Members who are recent high school and college graduates will be recognized and included in prayer.

Vacation Bible School will be held from 6:15 to 8:25 p.m. June 24-28 at the church. North Christian (Disciples of Christ) — The congregation, led by the Rev. Tonja M. Gerardy and music director Nikolai Peek, will be celebrating Pride Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 850 Tipton Lane. Parishioners will also discover new ways to live out the belief that all are beloved by God. Child care will be available during the service.

Old Union United Church of Christ — The message, “You Have Searched Me and Known Me!,” will be delivered by Pastor Kirby Rupp during the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 12703 N. County Road 500W, Edinburgh. Scripture will include 1 Samuel 3:1-20; 2 Corinthians 4:5-12; and Mark 2:23-3:6. Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m., with fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study will be on hiatus for the summer.

First United Methodist — During the 9 a.m. Traditional and 11 a.m. Celebration services Sunday at the church, 618 Eighth St., the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “Clay Jars.” Scripture will include 2 Corinthians 4:5-12.

Mission Mondays, where those of all ages and abilities can participate in mission projects, are scheduled to take place at noon on June 11 and 25 and July 23 in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

First Presbyterian — Worship service begins at 9:30 a.m. at the church, 512 Seventh St., and include the sacrament of communion. The sermon, based on Mark 2:23-3:6, will be “Following God or Rules?” During the service, the congregation will commission the participants of the middle school mission trip to Kentucky and the participants of a youth conference in North Carolina. Infant and toddler care will be available from 9:15 to 11 a.m.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. every Friday. A second support group for working-age men meets at 6:15 a.m. Mondays.

People in need of a meal are invited to the Hot Meals program offered at 5 p.m. Friday, with entrance through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will bring the message, “Churchgoer: Christian or Disciple?,” at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Petersville. Scriptures will be shared from Matthew 28:16-20, and the congregation will be reminded that Jesus instructed us to make disciples. Communion will be served by the pastor and the lay leader, Joe Bush. The choir will provide special music and Teresa Covert will give the children’s message. A time of fellowship will follow the service.

The pastor’s sermons for the next six weeks will be focused on practicing the United Methodist membership vows.

Both Monday night Bible studies will not be meeting again until September. The Sit ‘N’ Stitch group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night at the home of Connie Nolting, and the prayer group will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

“God’s Amazing World,” a summer vacation Bible school blitz for children ages 3 to 12, will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. June 10 in the woods across from the home of Joe and Kathy Bush. Children will experience the wonder of nature, participate in a Bible story and enjoy games and music. Garden City Church of Christ — The church’s Vacation Bible School, which will introduce children in prekindergarten through fifth grade to “TIME Lab,” will take place at 6 p.m. June 10-14 at 3245 Jonesville Road. A light dinner will be provided.

First United Methodist — The next Fridays@First will be the Tristan Grider Voice Recital and begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 618 Eighth St. Another Fridays@First is set to take place at 7 p.m. Friday featuring the Reen family. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Events

Flintwood Wesleyan — The Flintwood Outdoor Market will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at the church, 5300 E. 25th St., featuring local vendors and artisans and home-baked goods.

Kid’s Camp will be June 12-15 and Revolution Teen Camp will be June 18-22 at the church’s District Family Campground in Orleans. Anyone interested in attending either camp must fill out an entry form.

First United Methodist — Families of all ages, shapes and sizes are invited to join the Family Ministry Team for a picnic lunch and playground fun at noon each Wednesday in June and July at the church playground, 618 Eighth St. If the weather does not cooperate, trikes and toys will be available for children to play with in the Fellowship Hall.

Ride for Alive will take place at 10 a.m. June 16. Participants may make a minimum donation of $15 to meet at the church, participate in one or two bike courses throughout Columbus and enjoy snow cones and fellowship upon their return.
