The 10th annual Girlfriend Ride will provide an opportunity for women to enjoy a trip through the countryside while supporting a worthy cause.
Organizer Paul Ashbrook said that he and his wife, Carol, founded the event — held this year on June 16 — to empower women and girls in the community.
Over the past nine years, the race has raised more than $200,000 for organizations focused on service for women, he said.
“It’s unique to Indiana, probably unique to the Midwest with being a women’s only (cycling) event,” Ashbrook said.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the non-profit Columbus Bike Co-op and its efforts to increase cycling among women, Ashbrook said.
